Lexington MA Fall Events 2026: From Fletcher Park to Depot Square

October 8, 2026

The Lexington Farmers' Market holds its last summer Tuesday at Fletcher Park on October 27. Exactly a month later, on Black Friday, the tree lighting and Santa's arrival by fire engine take place at Depot Square. The weeks in between work like a handoff. Weekly outdoor gatherings at one end of the Center give way to evening events, shows at Cary Memorial Hall and a holiday kickoff at the other end. Depot Square also holds the one Center opening people are still waiting on.

October Still Belongs to Fletcher Park

For most of this month the Tuesday market is still the steadiest standing date in the Center. It runs 2 to 6:30 pm in summer but closes at 6 pm in October, so the late shopping window is half an hour shorter than it was in August.

Around the market, the Center's storefronts are serving as a gallery. ArtWalk 2026, the annual fall display, puts local artists' work in Lexington Center shop windows through November 17. The Munroe Center's listing gives the start as October 2 in its event header and October 1 in its description. Unlike the market, ArtWalk has no hours or set day. A walk down Massachusetts Avenue on a Tuesday afternoon covers both.

The holiday weekend previews the whole season's shift in a single day. The free Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration on Monday, October 12, begins at 9 am with a morning walk at the Paint Mine. Activities follow at the Depot, and an afternoon festival at Emery Park features Native artists, music, dance and family crafts. That route ends up in the same part of the Center the November calendar keeps returning to.

The table makes the pattern clear. Before October 27, most Center events take place in daylight and outdoors. After it, almost everything happens in the evening and indoors, with Cary Memorial Hall covering most nights.

The Week the Handoff Actually Happens

The week of October 22 packs the most into the shortest span. Two Cary Memorial Hall shows land on back-to-back nights. On October 23, the Lexington Youth Commission's Haunted House at the Community Center runs 7 to 10 pm, on a day the agenda notes is a half-day at Lexington High School. The final market follows on Tuesday, and trick-or-treating in the Center comes on Friday.

The trick-or-treat rules are simple, and they're easy to miss if you only see the date. According to Shop Lexington First, treats go only to children in costume. Participating businesses mark their doors with orange, black and white balloon bouquets. The merchants' page lists the event as 2 to 5 pm. The Youth Commission's October agenda lists 11 am to 1 pm for the same day, next to the words "Halloween balloon hanging." That reads like the volunteer setup slot, not trick-or-treating hours. Plan around 2 to 5 pm, and check with the organizers closer to the day. The merchants' page also links to the town's parking information, which is useful on an afternoon when the Center fills with families.

Cary Memorial Hall and the Library Fill the Gap

Once the market closes, the Center's weekly routine shifts to Cary Memorial Hall and the library. Cary Memorial Hall lists six shows between October 15 and November 29, from Neko Case to Shaun Cassidy. The library's calendar runs at a different pace. It has Saturday morning programs in October and the Friends book sale in November. The sale is open to the public Saturday, November 7, from 10 am to 5 pm, and continues Sunday, November 8, from 1 to 5 pm.

Smaller venues in town are adding live music too. Massachusetts Chamber Music Artists opened its 2026–27 season on September 12 at historic Follen Church.

One Last Afternoon at Fletcher Park, Then Depot Square

Fletcher Park gets one more day after the market closes. The Thanksgiving FEASTival runs from noon to 4 pm on Tuesday, November 24, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. Three days later, the Center's focus is at Depot Square for the tree lighting and Santa's fire-engine arrival, 5:30 to 7 pm on Black Friday. Judy Collins plays Cary Memorial Hall at 7 pm the same evening, so an early dinner, the lighting and the concert all fit within a few blocks. The same Youth Commission agenda lists the next Center date on Saturday, December 5. Toys for Tots will collect from 10 am to 3 pm at the Lexington Center CVS.

The Storefront on Depot Square Still Waiting to Open

The Center's most anticipated new business sits on the same square where the season ends. Commune All Day Cafe is planned for 7 Depot Square, in the former Lexington Liquors space. Owners Sam and Kinnari Patel describe an all-day menu of coffee, smoothies, boba, tacos, sandwiches and açaí bowls in the Lexington Observer report. On May 14, the Zoning Board of Appeals agenda included a special-permit request for the address. The request asked to allow a restaurant with zero parking spaces where seven would normally be required. Patch's July report said permits were still being secured and the target was winter. WhatNow also gave winter 2026 as the expected opening. Commune did not come up again on the August or September ZBA agendas. As of early October it is still a planned café, not an open one. If it opens on its winter target, that would come after the tree lighting.

One empty storefront on Massachusetts Avenue isn't new. Abbott's Frozen Custard at 1853 Massachusetts Avenue was reported closed this August. Its owner told the Lexington Observer that operations had actually stopped in November 2024. The report also said that, as of July, the landlord had no replacement tenant lined up.

What Did Open, and Where

Several changes this fall happened just outside the commercial blocks of the Center, and they affect how a Center afternoon goes.

  1. The Lexington Center Recreation Complex Playground reopened August 10 after construction and held its ribbon-cutting September 3. Its Universal Design includes play access for wheelchair users and children with vision impairments, a wheelchair-accessible merry-go-round and an accessible zipline. After the market closes, it is one of the few outdoor stops in the Center with no end date.
  2. Bloch Performing Arts holds the grand opening of its first Lexington studio spaces at 271 Lincoln Street on October 10. That's the same Saturday as the library's morning Story Social.
  3. At 323 Marrett Road, Mark and Megan Pesce's Pesce Network reopened Dunkin' on August 18 and added Lexington's first Jimmy John's. A grand-opening celebration followed on September 12.

A proposed stage at the Munroe Center for the Arts isn't on this list. A June Lexington Observer report described the project as early-stage and said completion was hoped for in summer 2027.

If a move is on your calendar this winter, perhaps a family member relocating to Lexington or a home you're preparing for a spring listing, timing it around these weeks takes some planning.
